Parking

15th March 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,
I am writing with regards to parking in the vicinity of the school area. Please can I remind all parents/carers that it is vital that you park with care and consideration when dropping off and picking up your child/ren from school.

Understandably. it is evident that now all the children are back at school, there has been a significant increase in the numbers of people arriving at school and it is becoming more and more hazardous for our children and families.

I appreciate that there are no road markings to prevent people from parking opposite the school. However, when drivers park here, it prevents children from being able to cross safely opposite the school as their sight is obscured by parked cars. This is causing children to have to step out into a busy road in order to see if cars are approaching. This is putting our children at danger. Secondly, by parking here, parents are causing serious interruptions to traffic flow and are increasing the likelihood of an accident occuring.

Now the mornings and evenings are getting lighter and hopefully the weather will improve, I would encourage parents to use more sustainable modes of travel to get to school where this is possible. I do understand that parents or carers will sometimes need to drive their children to school, however I would urge, where possible, for you to park away form the school and then walk in. Please consider the safety of ALL our children and refrain from parking opposite the school and obviously not on double yellow lines, in the bus stop or on the bend on Gayton Road.

I have been in touch with Wirral Council to find out whether the proposed traffic calming measures are being installed along Gayton Road, but as of yet I have not had a response.

Thank you in advance for your support of this important issue and let's hope together we can ensure the safety of all our children.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mrs McAleny
